Philadelphia Film Festival's Festival Of Independents Deadline Extended
Want to try and get your film into next spring's Philadelphia Film Festival? Check out the following press release-
The Philadelphia Film Society (PFS), parent organization to the Philadelphia Film Festival, is pleased to announce an extended deadline and a further call for entries for the Philadelphia Film Festival’s Festival of Independents. The new deadline for submissions to this groundbreaking line-up is January 15th, 2009.
The Festival of Independents (FestIndies) is the Philadelphia Film Festival’s annual platform for promoting local filmmaking. Comprised of feature films, documentaries, shorts, experimental films and animation, the Festival of Independents showcases regional filmmakers and celebrates local talent. PFS hopes the deadline extension will allow unique creative talents the necessary time to apply for this prestigious series.
"Festival of Independents is involved in world-premiering many features filmed in the tri-state region, as well as having recognized Philly talent before the international community," said Scott Johnson, FestIndies senior programmer. "We have been thrilled to host many filmmakers and entertainers. FestIndies prides itself on maintaining the energy of a major film festival with an incredible slate of films, exciting parties, and post-screening events."
Over the past 8 years, the Festival of Independents has boasted sell-out crowds for many world premiering and radical shorts programs. Short-film creators who have been showcased include: Baby Eat Baby - Jeremiah Zagar (2003), Tom Goes to the Mayor - Tim and Eric (2002), and Children in a Jar - Andrea Campbell (2004). The 2008 Festival of Independents program’s impressive artistic line-up included Jeremiah Zagar’s In a Dream, a documentary on local mosaic artist Isaiah Zagar, Eleven Minutes, a documentary on “Project Runway”’s Jay McCarroll, and the festival hit First Person, a documentary on Philadelphia public school students.
CFP will host a meeting for upcoming short film production. Those interested in developing new projects with CFP are welcome to attend. Guidelines for the Short Film Series at Endless Mountains Theatre will be discussed.

Members of Community Film Project (CFP) will discuss their short films this week on the local PBS affliaite, WVIA. The program is called "Pennsylvania Independent Film Festival" and will be broadcast live from Pittston.

Also, on Saturday November 22 at 10 PM WVIA will air an hour of CFP films.
--------------------------------------------- WVIA is located off Route 315 just south of the Pittston exit of I-81.
From the south: Get off at the Pittston exit. At the light, you will have to do a u-turn to the left to get on 315 south.
From the north: Take exit 175A/Pittston. Stay on 315 south.
In either case, continue down 315 for about a half mile until the light at the First National Community Bank (and the closed Dunkin' Donuts). Turn left (going under I-81), and then right. You will see the studio on your left.
The short film "Clear" will begin filming in November 2008 in Luzerne County.

What if The Office filled the water cooler with Red Bull?
“Get Pumped!” is a documentary that details the operations of a consulting firm named Pumped Associates. The mission of Pumped Associates is to improve the well being of clients by utilizing energetic chants to get people fired up.
"First Semester" by Tony DelRegno
During Beth's first semester of college she is living in a party house. Her very-religious mother and swinging grandmother surprise her for a visit. Beth must try to hide the truth about her roommates: a lesbian in love with her, and two perverted males who make dirty movies.
"A Night On The Moon" by Bob Sweeney
Strange and Wonderful things can happen on the moon.
Set in the early 20th century and filmed in the fashion of an old silent film, the story centers on Scott who tries to impress, Harriet, by taking her on a date to the moon.
Bob Sweeney, a native of Dickson City, serves on the Community Film Project's board of directors and has contributed several films to the CFP/EMT Summer Shorts Series. He graduated from Philadelphia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design Communications in May 2004. Never one to take a break, Mr. Sweeney has made 30 short films over the past four years and has helped out on several others. He currently works as a photographer/videographer in Scranton, PA. Mr. Sweeney was awarded Best Director at the Baptist Bible Film Festival '08 for "A Night On The Moon".
"A Witness Carol" by Danielle Wells and Kevin Malone
Raymond Barber had everything; a best friend, a supportive mother and a religion to call upon when things got to be too much. But when he delves into the under belly of a specific Christian holiday, his whole world turns upside down. Stuck between an ultimatum and devotion, Raymond must decide what's most important. Should he follow his faith, or his heart?
A DVD featuring films from Director Jeff Fowler will be on sale for $10 at the 11/1 screening. This DVD contains over 2 hours of short films including "Get Pumped" and "The Wingman". A DVD trailer is shown below:
Jeff Fowler, resident of Archbald, recently graduated with an MA in Communication Arts from Marywood University. After producing two student films with friends, co-workers, and family members, he challenged several members of NEPA's filmmaking community to join with him in the creation of the Community Film Project (CFP). The mission of CFP is to facilitate the production and promotion of regional motion picture projects. Since 2004, Mr. Fowler has served as President of Community Film Project. He is co-writer/producer/director of the independent feature film Who’s Famous Now? Mr. Fowler directed many other short films including: Alright, Star World, Laugh Zombie Riot, The Wingman: Bingo Night Creepin', and Get Pumped!. Tony DelRegno is a founding member of The Community Film Project. He currently serves as the treasurer and a contributing filmmaker. Tony has a Master in Business Administration, and Master in Communication Arts. He is the Commercial Production Manager for Nexstar Broadcasting, and is an adjunct college professor at many local universities. He has produced and directed many local television commercials and programming. Next, he is the co-writer/producer/director of Who’s Famous Now?, and Star World. Also, Mr. DelRegno has produced/directed several short films including : Effects of Digital Media, Ghost of Kingston Hall, The Entity, and First Semester. Danielle Wells, a native of Factoryville, graduated from Temple University with a Broadcast Journalism degree in May 2008. With a strong background in production, she spent three years in front of the camera before realizing she should be behind it. Before she was a Senior in college she had already produced a documentary, a 20 minute television show, radio broadcasts, and countless journalism packages. She has interviewed Mayoral candidates, turkey farm owners, food truck operators and even priests. With an intuitive sense of organization, and a flair for the business aspect of productions, Danielle produced "A Witness Carol" by herself. She currently works for a production company in Berwyn, PA and is assisting in the development of three projects for major television networks.
Kevin Malone, a Temple Film Graduate hailing from New Jersey, had the distinct honor to be in the Senior Projects Film class during his last year. In a class where just 30 people were allowed to attend, he quickly became known for his writing. His film, "A Witness Carol" was awarded the Freese Award for Best Screenplay, and was acknowledged by all faculty as one of the best in the class. Kevin choose Danielle to produce his film after working with her on other projects. He has written and directed "He's an Artist," "Some Dogs go to Purgatory," "Two Guys Redux," "The Philly Blunt Chronicles," and "How to Become a CEO." Kevin and Danielle have co-created 23circles Productions, a full production company operating in the Philadelphia area.
